I hypnotize myself at jam band concerts
Music can be a fundamental part of a self-hypnosis journey :)
I am a professional hypnotist and huge music lover. Whenever I really want to feel myself in my body and have a good time, I like to go to jam band concerts and festivals. Jam bands are known to jam out during their concerts, playing long instrumental sets within original songs or covers. Some of my favorite jam bands include: The Grateful Dead, Phish, Umphrey’s McGee, Goose, Spafford, The Allman Brothers Band, etc. There are many others on this list but hopefully you get a better idea of this style of music!
Jam bands are so fun to watch and usually bring hippie, free spirited audience members to their concerts. Any given song can range from a few minutes to 30+ minutes! Yes… a whole song can be the length of a short album. It’s so easy to close your eyes and just feel the energy in the room. This type of music has allowed me to really channel my Inner Hypnotist when I’m out at a live performance.
The shows are naturally hypnotic and the vibes are always immaculate. From the lights to the jam sessions to the audience ambience, it’s a perfect environment for me to do self-hypnosis.
How does self-hypnosis work?
Self-hypnosis is the process of inducing yourself into an altered state (trance) in order to elicit specific experiences. I teach my clients how to hypnotize themselves for a variety of reasons like reducing anxiety, helping with sleep, manifesting, or general wellbeing. The shift in consciousness allows you to gain clarity on your goals and also provide relief. You can use self-hypnosis for anything, but note it does take consistency and practice in order to see the results you seek.
The basic process is:
Bring yourself into a light trance through deep breathing, eyes closed or with a soften gaze.
Go deeper into your relaxed state through self-guided visuals like counting yourself down a flight of stairs or jumping across a set of lily pads. The point is to strengthen your mental visualization skills while using the counting down to get you into a deeper state.
Use deepening phrases to get you feeling even more relaxed and in touch with your subconscious mind. You can repeat these phrases out loud or in your mind. I usually use a phrase like:
The deeper I go, the better I feel. The better I feel, the deeper I go.
or
Deep and deep I go. Deep and deep I go.
The goal is to use you these phrases to bring your body into a trance state in order to connect with your subconscious mind and bypass the highly critical and controlling conscious mind.
Once you feel deeply relaxed, use affirmations and guided visualizations to help bring your goals into fruition. Imagine yourself completing your goals while you repeat those phrases. Right now this is one of my favorite sets of phrases to use during self-hypnosis:
Clear skin. Clear mind. Clear path.
You can use any affirmations that speak to you, but they have to be somewhat believable to work.
Now repeat your affirmations over and over in your head or out loud while filling your imagination with visuals that align with your goal.
After you’ve repeated about 10+ times, you can bring yourself back to the present room and go about your day.
If you are working on a specific goal, you can repeat the self-hypnosis process multiple times a day over the course of several weeks or a month or even longer. The more you work on the skill of self-hypnosis the stronger it becomes on training your brain to help you achieve your goals.
This is a super quick summary of how to use self-hypnosis. Working with a hypnotherapist like my self will give you the full tools and training you need to conduct self-hypnosis like a pro!
How I hypnotize myself at jam band concerts
I use the above process I outlined but make a few adjustments giving the hypnotic and vibrant environment of a jam band concert.
As a way to deepen my hypnosis, I really let myself loose and dance, letting my body lead the way. I do close my eyes but open them from time to time to make sure I am not running into anyone as I let myself be free.
If I keep my eyes open, I allow the lights to help me maintain a trance state, feeling calm and magickal as I follow along to the music.
I repeat my affirmations as I listen to the songs. Sometimes I do the process of self-hypnosis for just one song, or other times I come in and out of trance throughout the whole set. I use my intuition to help me determine where to focus my hypnotic intentions.
Why do I hypnotize myself at jam band concerts?
I use self-hypnosis to gain clarity and to aid in manifestations. So for me it’s both practical and magical (which I also believe can be practical but that’s for a different day). I use self-hypnosis when I want to connect deeply with myself and with my spirit guides. Jam band concerts are such a perfect environment to get deep in trance because I can fully let myself go with the music, deepening access to my subconscious mind while strengthen my imagination and visualization skills.
I don’t ever feel judged when I am at these types of shows. Everyone is in their own world, vibing to the music, smiling, and enjoy themselves.
Do I conduct self-hypnosis at other types of concerts?
YES! Absolutely! In fact I find that most live concerts are really excellent arenas for inducing self-hypnosis. I also find myself conducting it when I am at home just jamming and dancing in my house. I dance around the house, dropping myself deep in my body while letting my mind wander…
Your imagination is a portal to infinite potential.
If self-hypnosis seems hokey and unbelievable, then it’s probably not a modality for you. However — if after reading this piece, you feel inclined to try it, I hope you give it a shot. There are clinical studies that prove the efficacy of both self-hypnosis and hypnotherapy, but in order to make it truly work: you have to believe you can do it and give yourself the patience to develop a habit around it. Your imagination, accessed through your subconscious mind, is a POWERFUL TOOL in helping you program yourself to achieve your goals and to overall create a greater sense of wellbeing in your life.
